Yes, it’s true – I go to church on Sunday mornings.  I’ve heard a lot of sermons in my day – and I must admit that I’ve critiqued or dreamed my way through more than one.

Yesterday, at 9:30 AM, Dr. Emerson Eggerichs – M.A. in Divinity and communications, Ph.D. in child and family ecology – delivered a compelling and riveting message on marriage and relationships.  The concepts are instructive for all relationships – especially between men & women.

Dr. Eggerichs talked about perspective and differences between men and women.  He suggests that fundamentally women want love in their relationships and men want respect.  This is detailed in the book that I’m reading right now:  Love & Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs.

Here are a couple quotes that jumped out at me during the message:

§  “You’re not wrong; you’re just different.”  Many times there is no right or wrong answer or way to do something.  Men see the world through blue sunglasses and women see the world through pink sunglasses.  Freud called these ‘rose colored glasses’ – we see the world from our own historically oriented perspective.

§  “You both are convinced that you’re right and you are – that doesn’t mean one of you is wrong.”  Wow, in a black and white, right and wrong, good and bad world – landing on there is no right or wrong can be a big leap.  Bottom line:  hearing another’s perspective and suspending judgment improves relationships.

These principles apply to all relationships in life.  As we understand our differences and listen to others to hear their perspective – and suspend judgment to allow them their due respect – we’ll strengthen our relationships developing love around us.

Dr. Eggerichs and his wife, Sarah, will be delivering a Love & Respect conference in partnership with Ada Bible Church at Resurrection Life Church on Friday, October 1st in the evening & Saturday, October 2nd in the morning.  If it’s as good as the 45 minutes of stories and entertainment that I heard, then it’s worth checking out.

We each paint our world in a different color and bring dramatically different experiences to our relationships.   Let’s express our opinions strongly and respect others’ perspectives here at i3 Business Solutions and at our homes.

Thriving,
